Beware The Riptide Deborah McClatchey 9781630390259 Books Reviews
It's a rare occasion when a YA book can scare you like this one can. It's a tribute to McClatchey's skills as an author that she can generate this from a simple story. The tale of Billy, swept out to sea by the rip-tide is a timely reminder of the dangers of messing with the occult and the fact we don't always get what we expect or hope for when we dabble in the black arts. With a cracking pace and plenty of scares, this is a great read. Highly recommend this book.
Beware the Riptide has a lot going on in this short novella and though its haunting backdrop sets the pace for what is sure to be an exciting novel, it has some dark undertones about life and nature itself.
Messing with powers far beyond human understanding always have dire consequences and our young hero’s Josh, Robby and Corrie are meant to learn this in the most gruesome and heartbreaking way.
The story was gripping, it keeps your attention from the opening scene, the authors writing style keeps you hooked. I am patiently awaiting the sequel.

Beware The Riptide is a great book for those NON squeamish teens. I thought the bully connection was brilliant,.
Well written with a fast pace, albeit you may have to put it down to assuage your fears.
My father always warned me, since I live in a seaside town, to beware the riptide -- and every so often someone would indeed be swept out to sea. But my father never told me, when I was a teen or young adult, to beware Ouija boards -- only surf boards. This is a teen and young adult story, filled with the horror that makes your spine tingle. You'll be swept from your accustomed world to the world od Deborah McClatchey's "Beware the Riptide." You're an adult, or soon will be. You grew up on a diet of horror movies. You crave a bit of well-played horrific thrill now and again.
Read "Beware the Riptide" by Deborah McClatchey, and you'll never look at an Ouija board the same way again.
Pretty scary and suited for teens and young adults. Unfortunately, three school friends decide to play around with an Ouija board in the attempt to bring his friend back but they shouldn't have done that! You can't fool Death. A creature appears and terrorizes the neighborhoods. I highly recommend this entertaining story, it will make your spine tingle and scared! Well-written, well done. Highly recommended!!!!
This YA horror story is quite creepy in places & yet educational throughout. As a middle-school English teacher, I can tell you there aren't that many books that can do both. Most are either far too adult for teens or far too tame to be called horror. McClatchey does a nice job of balancing the venom of Billy the Bully with Josh's need to cleanse his tainted soul. A great read for current & future horror readers alike.
This was pretty scary. More for teens and young adults, not the young ones. A bully named Billy, decides to test fate to impress a girl and loses. (It was hard to feel bad for this guy). But unfortunately, three of his school mates decide to play around with an Ouija board. Maybe they could bring him back? They shouldn't have done that! Can't fool around with Mother Nature. Now a creature appears to be terrorizing the neighborhoods. Is it Billy? People are being knocked off in a horrid way.
I have to admit there were parts that actually scared me and I'm a seasoned fan of horror movies. I highly recommend this entertaining story, it will keep you flipping the pages. Be prepared to be scared! Well-written, well done. I was given this story by the author in a promo exchange for an honest review which I happily give high marks.
