My girl Yamila did it right in this one. I was so glad for the return of Jonah. I didn't do the installment before this one, Vanquished Goddess, any favors because I felt like that one seemed so artificial to the series without our golden boy there stealin' the scene (In that particular story, we learn that Jonah was to submit for a spell to Randell's brother upon losing in a game of chess.) More importantly, this story rightfully shifts the focus back onto our original hedonistic trio of demon lovers and focuses on the aftermath of a sidestory that happened in Vanquished Thief when Randell was called to assist his brooding brother in the defense of his territory from a terrifying clan of cursed bird-like demons called the Raven Fey.In Vanquished Enemy, Jonah is lucky to escape with his rosy ass intact when Randell's mentally unstable brother, Vantru, fixates on him under delusions of Randell's submission to him. Possessed by a wraith, he has become consumed with feelings of bitterness and revenge towards Randell for having abandoned him to pick up the pieces of his decimated territory all by himself.
Upon hearing of all of this, Randell, rushes to aid his brother only to find himself becoming the target of the wraith himself and now it is up to King Caine and boy toy Jonah to sexorcise the wraith out of him.
This felt familiar after the lukewarm installments, Vanquished Thief and Vanquished Goddess, that preceded this one. It's not that those were bad - Vanquished Thief wasn't too bad because at least the heavy eroticism carried that one - but I felt the focus was no longer on the relationship between King Caine, Randell, and Jonah. The introduction of Sarina, whose story is delved in a little more at the end of this story in Vanquished Beauty (which I didn't even care to read because if you read my review of Vanquished Goddess, you already know I wasn't feelin' ol' girl.), was totally unwarranted in the Darkhelm universe if you ask me. She didn't make a very important addition to the court of King Caine whatsoever and I was all too grateful that there was little to no mention of her in this story.
Even though the sex is anything but boring in Ms. Yamila's universe, I have to say that she is in her element when it involves men. As an avid reader of erotica of all genres, I have nothing against the hetero stuff she's been putting out lately. I was the one that always said I'd love to see her write something smokin' between a man - or demon man - and woman. She delivered in Alien Bride - I was diggin' on that. I just felt it had no place in the Darkhelm universe with demon boys as sexy as King Caine, Randell, and of course, Jonah. Their love and adoration for one another leaves no room for outsiders and when these three get it on, it's always strawberries and champagne.
I'm actually just reading this as it has been out for a while already and to date I think she has come out with some spin-off of this series. I can't wait to read that. But she says it isn't over for the Vanquished series itself so I'm hoping it doesn't get shallow from here. Sometimes when a series gets too drawn out the plots start becoming recycled or flat and I really hope that doesn't happen here.

There was a seriousness at the end that I'm kinda nervous about, but all in all it's the smut that I wanted in the usual vanquished style.
Every book of the Vanquished Series is filled with really hot sex scenes and lovely cunning characters that leaves you easily hooked for hours! Yamila explores a kind of "dark" side of sex, but she makes it so enticing that it doesn't feel shocking at all lol I recommend this for all of those BL fans who don't care for more "hardcore" stuff besides the romance )
I want to hear more about vanquished goddess and her trio. That's short was just two short and went is she going to meet the human turn demon omg I can wait to read the next book great job 5 Star's.
Some series grow tiresome with each new installment. Not so with this one! Yamila manages to continue to surprise as she finds new aspects of these perverse yet loving and always amusing characters to reveal to the audience. And yet, a new reader will not be lost in this sensually addictive realm. To say more would give away spoilers. Just read it and enjoy!
I love all of Yamila's books so far. The ones that I have read so far. I love the Vanquished series a lot. I love how Caine,Randell and Jonah fell in love with each other slowly but surely despite all the ups and downs they face together and separately. I would would this series to anyone who loves mm short stories. Erin
King Caine and Jonah will have to save their beloved Randell!! Exorcism in sexuality is what is in order. Can they reach him in time?

When I bought Vanquished Enemy, it was late at night and I didn't notice that it included a bit about Sarina, from Vanquished Goddess at the end. Talk about an awesome surprise!
Deborah, in the comments, really said it some series grow tiresome. Vanquished really does not. Every installment is interesting, characters show new sides of themselves, new depth is added to the world, you get new impressions of the society-- and there's nothing tired about the hot scenes. The author's writing style keeps getting better and better. Bravo.
